Effective Mental Health Billing: Empowering BIPOC Clinicians through CPT Codes to Stop Leaving Money on the Table

A three-hour training program designed for BIPOC mental health clinicians (Counselor Professional Identity and Practice Issues), focusing on the utilization of mental health CPT codes, modifiers, insurance terminology, and strategies to reduce burnout through effective documentation and billing practices. The training will meet the criteria of enhancing counseling experience, treatment, and clinical considerations while being culturally responsive to the unique challenges faced by BIPOC communities. 

BIPOC clinicians often encounter significant barriers in providing and billing for mental health services due to systemic biases and a lack of culturally tailored training. Effective billing practices are crucial not only for financial sustainability but also for reducing clinician burnout and improving client care. This training aims to bridge these gaps by providing comprehensive billing education within a culturally responsive framework.

Objectives

• To educate BIPOC clinicians on the utilization of mental health CPT codes and modifiers.

• To enhance understanding of insurance terminology and billing processes.

• To provide strategies for reducing clinician burnout through effective documentation and billing.

• To improve cultural competence in mental health service provision.

Originally from Bronx, NY, I have worked with a huge demographic. I have worked as a contractor for the Army Reserve as a Youth Services Specialist responsible for Family Programming, Yellow Ribbon Re-Integration Events, Battle Weekends, etc. In addition, to enhance my social services background, I have also served as a Care Ambassador with CDC assisting with Ebola outreach prevention services. I believe in transparency and open communication.

Treatment modalities include but are not limited to: DBT, CBT, Strengths-Based, Motivational Interviewing, Gestalt therapy interventions, I am able to complete anger management assessments, trauma assessments, substance abuse assessments, bio-psychosocial assessments, and an CE provider for topics related to Mental Health Counseling and Billing.

As CE Provider, I recognize BIPOC clinicians often encounter significant barriers in providing and billing for mental health services due to systemic biases and a lack of culturally tailored training. Effective billing practices are crucial not only for financial sustainability but also for reducing clinician burnout and improving client care. I aim to lessen the inequity by providing comprehensive billing education within a culturally responsive framework.

Continuing Education Credit Available: 3 NBCC credit hours
